Here are some shots from the end of summer party in Barcelona. Keep in mind this was two hours before the party started and they were pouring in a train load every three minutes!
We had some snafus (nothing unusual) as some Einstein booked 2 nights in Toledo instead of 3. The AirBnb we were renting from was trying to contact us in the evening via phone, which doesn't work in Spain, and I got an email from AirBnb telling me they were concerned that we weren't coming. This was while I was trying to book a rental car to get from the Madrid train station to Toledo. I Skyped them and assured them we were coming and gave them my email address.
I then realized that we were a day short, so tried to see if they had an extra night. No, they were booked. Looked at 2 nights at the Madrid airport, but didn't think that would 'fly'. Found a place near Toledo, but AirBnb wouldn't let me request it because I had to enter the code they texted to my phone. No text. On the Skype phone for 10 minutes as our departure time approached only to be dropped off the line.
Well maybe the train has wifi. No. Got an Uber to the train station, found our train and seats and in 20 minutes were hurling at 186 mph towards Madrid.
Cycling at 186.4 mph with only an 84 BPM heart rate!
Last ones off the train as our bags were forward and had to exit to the rear. Finally found the car rental booths and Avis said they have one for 550 euros. Stopped by Enterprise who said 'I don't know what is going on, but we don't have any' I asked if he could check with the airport. I left Pam there and went to AutoEurope to see what they had. Pam stopped by and said we can take a bus to Toldeo and rent a car from them there.
That didn't sound like fun and AutoEurope came up with a micro car for half of Avis's with full coverage. Off we went and somehow found the city. I found free wifi and saw an email from the host asking if we had arrived. I downloaded the map detail and headed out. Found him and up 3 flights of stairs found a very nice, clean, air-conditioned, 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment with a micro kitchen.
Grabbed a quick bite and heading to bed for an earlier day of exploring tomorrow.
From our private terrace near sunset!
